Frequently Asked Questions about Duffy’s Napa Valley
Q: What is your program like?
A. Our founder, Gene Duffy, is often credited with originating the 28-day
residential recovery program. Our program nurtures and educates those who walk
through the doors asking for help. Our primary purpose is to provide
services for alcoholics and addicts which will help them achieve abstinence,
break through their denial, educate them about the disease of addiction, and
provide guidance and role modeling for developing the living skills necessary to
achieve lasting sobriety. To accomplish this, we rely on the skills of
professional educators and counselors and on the group learning process which
emphasizes the principles and philosophy of self-help 12-Step programs of
recovery, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.), Narcotics Anonymous (N.A.),
Cocaine Anonymous (C.A.), etc.
Q: What is our success rate?
A: 99% of the guests who are admitted to Duffy’s-Napa Valley
successfully complete our program and enter their new world with the tools they
need to succeed and remain sober.
Q: What is your treatment philosophy?
A: Duffy’s treatment philosophy is premised upon the principles of
Alcoholics Anonymous and its 12 Steps. In particular, two underlying
principles of the program of A.A. are employed. “They shared their
experience, strength, and hope” and “Dedicated to the problem drinker (and/or
addict) who still suffers.” That is, Duffy’s approach is based upon A.A.’s
Step 12: “carrying the message.”
Q: What is your facility like?
A: Guest comfort in a peaceful environment is a high priority at
Duffy’s. Our facility is situated on 18 acres at the north end of Napa
Valley at the foot of Mount St. Helena. The head-waters of the Napa River
cascade gently through the property. It is spacious, clean, and orderly.
We have both private and semi-private rooms. There is a beautiful swimming
pool (seasonal) and recreational facilities that are available to the guests.

A. Yes, tours are given upon request. We suggest you call in
advance to arrange a guided tour of our facility.

dual addiction recovery, or detoxification) and the length of the stay to complete the program. (3-day detoxification, 7-day detoxification, 28-day recovery, 30-day recovery ,

Q: What makes Duffy’s unique, or what sets Duffy’s apart from the
others?
A: We would say it is the people, the program and the place. When it comes to people we like to point out that we are “A Family Business for a Family Problem.” Founded in 1967 by Gene Duffy, and now spanning two generations, the Duffy family has continuously operated Duffy’s Napa Valley with a priority on helping people. We view our staff as family as we serve together to meet the needs of individuals and families who are in crisis.
The 28-day Residential Recovery Program was started at Duffy’s. Our program approach embraces the abstinence/recovery reality. Our mature program has served as a model for others to start their own Residential Recovery facilities. And there is no question when you arrive on the grounds of our facility, that this is a beautiful, serene place that is highly conducive to address the transitional factors that are so important in setting a positive course of treatment for a person in need of recovery.
