Learn More About Duffy's Addiction Relapse Recovery Program
Duffy’s Napa Valley Rehab, in Northern California, is dedicated to ensuring that men and women who have been struggling with addiction receive the focused treatment that will best prepare them to achieve and maintain long-term recovery. Depending upon each guest’s specific needs and goals, treatment may be customized in terms of the type of care he or she receives, the intensive nature of that care, and/or the amount of time that the individual remains in treatment.
Research has shown that the longer a person remains in a drug & alcohol addiction treatment program, the better his or her chances are of achieving lasting recovery. However, we at Duffy’s are well aware that the need for extended treatment services does not apply to every person. In some cases, especially when caring for an individual who has previously completed a treatment program but who has either relapsed or is in danger of doing so, a short-term, high-intensity experience may be optimal.
For individuals whose needs match the description in the previous paragraph, we are proud to offer the Relapse Restart Program. Guests who receive care as part of the Relapse Restart Program will benefit from the full continuum of comprehensive treatment services for drug & alcohol addiction that Duffy’s is renowned for providing, but will remain in treatment for less time than do those who participate in either our Foundational Program or Extensive Relapse Prevention Program.
As the case with all drug & alcohol addiction treatment at Duffy’s, the Relapse Restart Program features personalized care that is provided with the unparalleled respect, dedication, and compassion that have been hallmarks of our program since the day we accepted our first guest in 1967. Though he or she will remain in treatment for a relatively brief length of time, a guest who completes the Relapse Restart Program will still engage in a variety of educational sessions and therapeutic activities and will also have time within his or her daily schedule to relax, reflect, exercise, and develop healthy and productive new interpersonal relationships.
Depending upon his or her needs, strengths, and objectives, a guest’s experience in the Relapse Restart Program may include the following elements:
Duffy’s is not a dual-diagnosis program, but individuals who are stable while taking medication for co-occurring mental health disorders may receive care through the Relapse Restart Program. Medication management services provided by staff members during the Relapse Restart Program may include providing guests with access to their medications, monitoring the self-administration of these meds, and facilitating an appointment with a psychiatrist if necessary and clinically appropriate.
When a guest enters the Relapse Restart Program he or she will be matched with a primary care counselor whose services will include conducting two individual therapy sessions each week. Individual therapy is an optimal opportunity for a person in drug & alcohol addiction treatment to address successes and setbacks, process emotions and experiences, and receive expert feedback and guidance from an experienced professional.
Group therapy is a foundational element of treatment for individuals who receive care through the Relapse Restart Program at Duffy’s in Northern California. Under the guidance of a trained and experienced professional, group therapy participants have the opportunity to share experiences, learn from the insights and opinions of others, and practice healthy communication skills. The following are among the topics that may be addressed in group therapy sessions while a person is enrolled in the Relapse Restart Program:
- Relapse prevention
- Powerlessness and unmanageability
Family therapy sessions may be scheduled on a regular basis while a person is in the Relapse Recovery Program, and educational groups for family members are also conducted on weekends. These services are designed to help family members process the impact that their loved one’s addiction has had on their own lives, to strengthen the family unit, and to empower family members to support their loved one after he or she has completed treatment and returned home.
Guests in the Relapse Restart Program may participate in a variety of experiential therapies during their time at Duffy’s. These activities help men and women in treatment to better understand themselves, connect with their emotions, and consider essential issues from an alternative perspective. The types of experiential therapies that may be scheduled during a guest’s time in our Relapse Restart Program include the following:
- Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
- Crossing the Line
- Music and recovery
- Art therapy
- Trust the Process
- Trust-building exercises, including surrender falls
Many of our guests have found such success in treatment that they wish to continue to stay with us and build their recovery skills further. For these individuals, we are proud to provide our Partial Hospitalization Programming/Extended Care. Individuals in this program stay for an additional 30 to 60 days and continue to build upon the progress they have already made in treatment. Individuals in PHP continue to receive many of the same interventions provided in our residential program, such as individual therapy and many different types of group therapy. Guests in the extended care program are able to dive deeper into the 12- Step principles and holistic treatment while gaining a deeper understanding of their substance use disorder.
We begin discharge planning from the very first day of treatment. A smooth discharge into the care of treatment professionals in an individual’s community can mean the difference between building on the progress that a person has made while in treatment or relapsing and having to start over again.
To that end, we meet regularly with each of our guests to discuss discharge plans. Some of our guests choose to discharge to sober living communities or into the care of their original referral sources, such as a therapist in their local community. No matter what each guest’s plans are, all discharge plans are discussed carefully and are designed with that person’s needs and desires at the forefront. All of our guests’ discharge plans are individualized and may include participation in 12-Step groups with a sponsor or a fellowship program like Refuge Recovery, SMART Recovery, Celebrate Recovery, LifeRing, etc.
