About Us

Duffy’s Napa Valley Rehab offers an integrated program to treat individuals struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders.  Our treatment model incorporates a combination of evidence-based practices that include CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-informed, and 12 Step programming.  At Duffy’s, we believe the key to recovery is building a strong therapeutic community that helps individuals focus on healthy relationships and participation.  Our program is designed to have the flexibility to meet each person’s needs on their journey to recovery.

Duffy’s is located on 23 acres in historic Calistoga, California, which is in the northern part of the beautiful Napa Valley. We are located on a serene former hot spring resort at the base of majestic Mt. St Helena. There are seven capped geysers on our grounds, and the Old Faithful geyser of California goes off hourly just across the road from our place.

Every year, Calistoga’s natural beauty, authentic Victorian architecture, mineral hot springs, and many other features attract visitors from across the United States and around the world. Among the many accolades that have been bestowed upon this special place, in 2001 the National Trust for Historic Preservation included Calistoga on its “Dozen Distinctive Destinations” list.

Duffy’s is proud to be a longtime member of the Calistoga community. In the decades since Gene Duffy founded our program in 1967, we have had the opportunity to serve and enhance the lives of more than 38,000 individuals and their families.

Drug & Alcohol Treatment Program

Duffy’s historic 12-step drug & alcohol treatment program

When Gene Duffy founded this program, it was one of the nation’s first 28-day treatment programs in the entire country. Today, we continue to provide comprehensive services to adults whose lives have been impacted by substance abuse and addiction. We also offer dual diagnosis treatment to individuals whose struggles with chemical dependency are accompanied by certain co-occurring mental or behavioral health challenges.

Through the decades, Duffy’s has remained a leader in the effort to refine, enhance, and improve the type and quality of care that is available to individuals and families. We continue to closely monitor the areas in this field that we believe need to be addressed further, and we are committed to remaining at the forefront of the effort to provide the most focused and effective care.

Gene had a true passion for helping people who were struggling with addiction, and he was a strong proponent of the 12-step recovery model, which remains a core component of treatment at Duffy’s Napa Valley Rehab. Gene especially valued the message of the 12th step, which reads, “Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics and to practice these principals in all of our affairs.”

At Duffy’s, we endeavor to remain worthy of Gene’s name by retaining a passion for providing superior treatment and by promoting this message in all that we say and do.

Mike Duffy, Gene’s son and a former president of Duffy’s, continued his father’s commitment to providing personalized care. “We consider our guests to be part of our extended family,” Mike said. “We want to make sure that everyone we treat at Duffy’s receives the same dignity and respect we give our family members. So we begin a relationship with each guest as we would with our brother or sister.”

Mike Duffy did not use the word “guest” accidentally. Referring to those who choose to heal with us as guests instead of as clients or patients is an integral element of our treatment philosophy. From the moment a person arrives on our campus until long after he or she has returned home, we want him or her to have no doubt that we value his or her strength, perspectives, and experiences, and that we are honored to have the opportunity to guide him or her along part of his or her recovery journey.

This dedication to superior guest service extends to every element of the Duffy’s experience. For example, our treatment program embraces the principles and practices of the 12-step recovery model because of its proven effectiveness. However, we understand that not everyone is best served by following the 12-step model, and we are happy to lead guests toward alternative recovery support programs if they have a strong aversion to the steps. At Duffy’s, our goal is not to prove that we are the perfect program; instead, we are committed to providing the type and level of care that is perfect for each of our guests.

Superior Experience

Our addiction treatment is a superior experience

No two guests will have an identical experience at Duffy’s, but each person who is entrusted into our care can expect to participate in a variety of activities that are designed to help them achieve the healthy lifestyle that they both desire and deserve. Our guests receive multiple one-on-one counseling sessions each week along with daily classes, specialty groups, peer groups, and meetings. Families are encouraged to attend weekly meetings, educational opportunities, and counseling if such attendance is possible and desired.

The power of treatment at Duffy’s is the result of a combination of several beneficial elements, including our serene location; Gene’s legacy of leadership, passion, and service; our home-style atmosphere; and our dedication to providing comprehensive personalized care that meets the physical, psychological, and spiritual needs of each of our guests.

On July 26th, 2013, I entered Duffy’s after detoxing. Thanks to the good foundation I got here, I am still sober! I hope the first Monday’s activities are checking out what meetings you will go to after you leave Duffy’s. I am still going to the ones I wrote down 5 years ago. Thanks for being there for folks like me who could not stop drinking.
