Residential Treatment

Learn More About Duffy’s 30-Day Residential Treatment Program

The Foundational Program at Duffy’s Napa Valley Rehab in Northern California is our flagship treatment program, and many alumni over decades of our history have found long-term healing because of this program.

Designed for adults age 18 and older of all genders, the Foundational Program is a 30-day residential treatment program intended to help people who are struggling with substance use disorders. This program also features dual diagnosis support for individuals whose primary diagnosis of addiction is accompanied by certain co-occurring mental health conditions.

The drug & alcohol program is staffed by a team of caring and compassionate professionals, many of whom have personal experience with recovery. Our staff is kind-hearted, engaged, and dedicated to helping people recover, and they ensure that each guest who comes to heal with us truly feels that he or she belongs. Before coming to Duffy’s, many of our guests have never felt like they belong anywhere, but at Duffy’s, they are members of the family.

Furthermore, our residential treatment team works hard to practice what we preach about substance abuse. We work to maintain a high level of honesty and integrity in what we do and would not ask somebody to change a behavior or adopt a philosophy that we are not practicing ourselves.

The Foundational Residential Program includes a number of interventions designed to help individuals overcome substance use disorders. Some of these interventions include:

Detox

Extended Care

Many of our guests have found such success in treatment that they wish to continue to stay with us and build their recovery skills further. For these individuals, we are proud to provide extended care. Individuals in this program stay for an additional 30 to 60 days and continue to build on the progress they have already made in treatment. Individuals in extended care continue to receive many of the same interventions provided in our residential program, such as individual therapy and many different types of group therapy. Guests in the extended care program are able to dive deeper into the 12-Step principles and holistic treatment while gaining a deeper understanding of their substance use disorder.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is a key component of treatment at Duffy’s. During individual therapy, guests meet with their primary care counselor, a highly trained and experienced clinician once per week. These sessions are a prime opportunity for individuals to process their successes and setbacks in treatment, receive individualized support, and discuss matters that they may not be comfortable bringing up during groups.

Group Therapy

Groups are the backbone of treatment at Duffy’s Napa Valley Rehab, and guests in the Foundational Residential Program spend much of their day participating in various groups. Groups allow guests to give and receive support, learn from their peers, and practice skills that they are learning in treatment. These groups are led by both counseling staff members and peers in the treatment program. Groups led by counseling staff members often include a check-in as well as experiential training or processing. They also focus on mindfulness, responsibility, and self-awareness. Peer-led groups are specialty groups that focus on one of more than 50 different topics. These topics include relapse prevention, acceptance, powerless and unmanageability, and other recovery and self-reflective topics.

Substance use disorders do not just affect individuals, but also entire families as the effects of one family member’s substance abuse ripples outward into the family system. As such, at Duffy’s, we are proud to provide family support and resources. These include our family informational support group on the weekend (online during the pandemic), and, if indicated in client’s counseling treatment, we also provide collateral contact between a guest’s counselor and their loved one, or even a joint counseling session with guest, counselor, and loved one to provide helpful information, resources, treatment progress, and family planning for guest’s discharge back home.

Seeking Safety Model

Learn More About Our Seeking Safety Counseling Model

Seeking Safety is an evidence-based, present-focused counseling model to help people attain safety from trauma and/or substance abuse. It can be conducted in group and/or individual modality. It is a safe model as it directly addresses both trauma and addiction, but without requiring clients to delve into the trauma narrative (the detailed account of disturbing trauma memories), thus making it relevant to a very broad range of clients and easy to implement.  At Duffy’s we have Seeking Safety group twice per week and also offer individual sessions to those interested.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy Model

Learn More About Our DBT Skills Model

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment method originally used for treating personality disorders and now widely applied in the treatment of substance use disorders. Duffy’s’ DBT skills training class employs a protocol that elegantly integrates and complements traditional 12-Step mutual support recovery concepts. The therapeutic group focuses on teaching clients to regulate emotions, tolerate distress, practice mindfulness, and become interpersonally effective in their lives. The development of these vital skills supercharges their recovery and bolsters optimal lasting freedom from addiction.

Integrative Mental Health & Communication

Learn More About Our Integrative Mental Health & Communication

Integrative mental health and communication takes a whole-person, whole-life view and approach to healing and thriving well beyond sickness and suffering. The group supports guests in identifying, understanding, communicating, and meeting emotions and needs in a big-picture, healthy way that complements their addiction recovery and co-occurring mental health. The group integrates elements of evidence-based components of mindfulness, positive psychology practices, and nonviolent communication. Guests participate in fun activities and games to learn skills and increase interpersonal effectiveness, assertiveness, compassion for self and others, empowerment, and enrichment in all areas of life.

Duffy’s Napa Valley Rehab, in Northern California, has a psychiatrist on retainer to provide medication management services. Guests who would benefit from including medications as a part of their treatment program will interact with our Treatment Support Specialists staff members on a day-to-day basis to receive their medications. These staff members are trained to meet state standards and interact with an electronic system to ensure safety. They also ensure that guests are taking the correct medications and maintain electronic records of medication dosages and administration.

Discharge Planning

Learn More About Discharge Planning at Duffy’s Napa Valley Rehab in Northern California

We begin discharge planning from the very first day of treatment. A smooth discharge into the care of treatment professionals in an individual’s community can mean the difference between building on the progress that a person has made while in treatment or relapsing and having to start over again.

To that end, we meet regularly with each of our guests to discuss discharge plans. Some of our guests choose to discharge to sober living communities or into the care of their original referral sources, such as a therapist in their local community. No matter what each guest’s plans are, all discharge plans are discussed carefully and are designed with that person’s needs and desires at the forefront. All of our guests’ discharge plans are individualized and may include participation in 12-Step groups with a sponsor or a fellowship program like Refuge Recovery, SMART Recovery, Celebrate Recovery, LifeRing, etc.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCEPT MEDICARE OR MEDI-CAL AT THIS TIME.

On July 26th, 2013, I entered Duffy’s after detoxing. Thanks to the good foundation I got here, I am still sober! I hope the first Monday’s activities are checking out what meetings you will go to after you leave Duffy’s. I am still going to the ones I wrote down 5 years ago. Thanks for being there for folks like me who could not stop drinking.
