How Do I Get Coverage through the Marketplace that Pays for Rehab

We’re only a few days away from the March 31 insurance marketplace open-enrollment deadline.

And if you’re doing some last-minute shopping on Covered California and want substance abuse treatment, you might be asking:

Q: What insurance plan should I sign up for through the marketplace to get coverage for treatment at Duffy’s?

A: Any PPO plan or Anthem Blue Cross plan


Some treatment centers do not accept insurance, others accept PPO plans and several accept PPO and HMO plans.

PPO plans allow you more treatment center options than HMO plans will. Yet, going in-network generally costs you less than going out-of-network. So if the treatment center is in-network with an insurance company, you’ll want to choose that particular company. It shouldn’t matter if you pick a PPO or HMO plan. But, PPO plans are better because they give you more flexibility by providing some coverage if you do go out-of-network.

Duffy’s is one of the treatment centers who takes all PPO plans and is in-network with Blue Cross. We cannot say for certain what insurance plan will offer the most coverage, but an Anthem Blue Cross PPO plan will most likely offer the best coverage for your stay. Just be sure to double check that mental/behavioral health and substance abuse coverage is included in the plan (a phone call might be the best way to confirm it).

How to meet the enrollment deadline (You have more time than you think)

Now you have more time to select a plan. Start your online application by 11:59 p.m. on March 31 and you’ll have until 11:59 p.m. on April 15 to select a plan.

According to the Sacramento Business Journal, here are the steps you need to take to extend your enrollment deadline:

  1. Create an online account.
  2. Fill out all required information on the “Apply for Benefits” page and hit “continue.”
  3. After hitting “continue,” you will see the “consent for verification “ page, where you can continue the process or hit ”save and exit” to come back later.
  4. Return to their online account no later than April 15 to complete the application and select a plan.
